The provincial president of the Partido Popular, José Císcar, announced on Tuesday afternoon his resignation from the leadership of the Alicante PP during a meeting of the executive committee.

Císcar had been considering his resignation for some time and he had taken the final decision following the formation of the municipal governments last Saturday. He will, however, continue with his seat in the Valencian Parliament but will leave provincial politics.

Following his resignation the Board of Directors appointed the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón , his replacement with the mayor of Benidorm, Antonio Pérez, general secretary. The appointments at this stage are only provisional and still need to be ratified by the PP National leadership, the regional leadership headed by Isabel Bonig and with the candidate for the presidency of the Diputación, Carlos Mazón.

In statements to journalists, Císcar explained that this is a personal decision adding that, after seven years, it was time to “close a stage and a cycle.”  He added “I need some more time for myself, and for my personal life.”
