Formentera 0 v. Daya Nueva 2

On paper this evening’s game should have been a formality for Daya, as the home side are helping to prop up the league, with Daya in sixth place.

So it was a complete surprise that the home side started the stronger and gave Daya some anxious moments in the opening ten minutes.  Daya came more into the game but were still playing pretty poorly.  On eighteen minutes a good free kick from Formentera only just went wide but Jaime did have it covered.

Daya squandered a good chance on twenty two minutes and you began to wonder if they would ever find the back of the net.  The visitors had another great chance from a corner on thirty minutes but the shot was poor.  It was now becoming very embarrassing and even at this stage in the game you sensed Daya could get mugged this evening !

On thirty five minutes a superb move by the visitors was again let down by atrocious finishing.  With the many many free kicks and corners that Daya had it was just unbelievable that it was 0-0 at the break !

Coach, Jesus, needed to give a half time team talk of epic proportions to somehow motivate his team for the second period.  The first threat of the second half came on forty seven minutes when Jaime had to get down well to turn a good effort round his post.  Just a minute later Jaime was once more in the thick of things as he again saved the visitors’ blushes.  Daya were just diabolical it was as if this group of players had never played together before, it was quite a pathetic display.

Fernando made a horrendous error in the Daya defence on fifty five minutes that saw Jaime make yet another good save.  On sixty three minutes a Formentera free kick curled just wide of the upright as the pressure on the visitors continued.  Daya had a free kick on sixty five minutes that produced their best effort of the game so far.  Just one minute later a good move saw Daya go close again, was the tide beginning to turn ?

The visitors produced another good attacking move which saw the shot hit a defender and bounce up onto the bar and away to safety.  Formentera hit back immediately and again Jaime had to save the day for Daya.  Then a piece of Franki magic saw him receive the ball out wide on the left, his brilliant run and stunning strike gave Daya the lead, after he had only been on as a sub for five minutes or so.

Could Daya hang onto this slender lead or may be add to it.  The answer was the latter as on eighty minutes a great move again down the left saw a nice finish by Miguel (also on as a sub) to make it 2-0.  Jaime made probably the best double save he has ever made to keep the ball from going over the goal line.  Two minutes later Jaime was at it again, this time saving a goal bound effort with his leg !

The final score of 2-0 flattered Daya, they owe Jaime big time as it was his heroics that won Daya this game.  Why oh why is Franki not in the starting line up as his contribution the last two games has been fantastic. Man of the  Match was Jaime.
