The weekend of March 3rd and 4th will see the first outdoor painting exhibition on Mojácar’s Paseo Marítimo, transforming the stretch from the Pueblo Indalo into a most unusual art gallery from 11a.m. to 2p.m, with a pictorial display in a unique setting by the Mediterranean Sea.

This event will be the first of many in which art and solidarity will go hand in hand, as the exhibited works will be available for sale to the passersby, with 20% of the proceeds going to different charities, which for this inaugural day will be MACS (Mojácar Area Cancer Support).

The idea sprang from a group of residents, frequent visitors to Mojácar and local artists from the area as well as different countries that are following in the trail left in the town over the years by some great international artists. It also has the collaboration of Mojácar Council, who are supporting the project, which is an important starting point for many more to come, reinforcing Mojácar’s position within the international intelligentsia.

It is an appealing initiative in all respects, which will undoubtedly become an important date in the tourist and cultural calendar as the exhibitions will be held on the first Saturday of each month and, there is every indication that it is going to be a great success.

The founders and the Council do, however, wish to stress that it is not a craft market and that very clear conditions have been set out for all collaborating artists.  Although all pictorial styles will be included, the level must be high, adopting the same strict standards as any gallery and museums around the world should have.  All the artists will be there on the day and must also be willing to participate in the annual Mojácar Painting Marathon.

In getting this open-air exhibition off the ground, new and interesting ideas have been added to give it an even more unique and innovative character.  The children are being involved through their schools, with their own paintings being shown on the Paseo Marítimo too, with the public being given the chance to vote for their favourite.  There will also be a blank canvas available for anyone who wishes to try their hand at painting a bit to complete a very novel piece of work and, to make this first event even more memorable, a Spanish classical guitar will be playing to add an extra touch of music and art to the day.

All in all, it is an artistic project full of excitement borne through a lot of work that will be yet another stand-out attraction for Mojácar.
