MAZARRÓN FC 0 CD JUMILLA 1

Mazarron lost a game which in all probability should not have been played after a day of torrential rain which made the pitch at the Estadio Municipal surface virtually unplayable.

Mazarrón started well with  Andreo having a shot in the first minute which was parried away. Meanwhile Jimmy overran ball when it stuck in a puddle as he was bearing down on goal. On 9 minutes an excellent ball by Raso found Jimmy but the striker went for power instead of placement and missed to the left of the upright.

Mazarróns best chance of the first half came from a lovely ball out of defence by Juan Andreo to Chino and it took a finger tip save from the Jumilla keeper to keep it out of the net. Three minutes later another excellent save by the visiting keeper denied Chino again as Mazarron continued to impress.
It took until the 28th minute for Jumilla’s first shot which was from distance and easily collected by Pablo in the Mazarrón goal. Then, to emphasise the state of the pitch Raul received the ball, turned and his shot beat the keeper but not the mud as the ball stuck a foot from the line before being cleared.

Mazarron were made to pay for the missed chances on 33 minutes when a strike from 25 years deceived Pablo and went into the top corner of the net to give Jumilla the lead at half time.

If the first half was all Mazarrón the second was an even contest with both sides playing good football despite the pitch cutting up. Two minutes after the restart Jimmy brought a fingertip save from the Jumilla keeper and shortly afterwards Mazarrón should have been awarded a penalty when there was a blatant handball as a Jumilla defender attempted to prevent an Andreo cross.

On 60 minutes it was Mazarrón who had a let off when a well struck free kick came back off the defensive wall only to fall to a Jumilla forward who blasted his shot against the post.

It was then the turn of Jumilla to suffer due to the atrocious pitch. Mazarrón were caught short at the back as they pressed forward and Pablo saw a Jumilla forward bearing down on his goal. He went to ground too early and the forward dribbled past him but, as he pulled the trigger to shoot, the ball stuck in the mud and his resultant miss kick went wide of the empty net.

Mazarron’s last chance came when Boudia hit the post from almost on the goal line when he should have scored. The defeat saw Mazarron drop one place to twelfth in the league.
