Tributes have poured in following the announcement that CD Montesinos talisman striker Vazquinho has departed the Valencia 2nd Regional Group 8 club ahead of the 2019-20 season that kicks off in September.

“Thanks for the memories Vaz – you made many a weekend a pleasure to be at the ground watching Monte,” said club Treasurer Howard Yeats.

A plethora of fans belonging to The Full Monte Supporters Club have been airing their views to me –  on what is a sudden shock exit – even for the new club manager and new club President.

“Manager Jesus Santander and club President Alfredo both spoke to Vazquinho and thought they had reached an agreement,” revealed supporters club president Eddie Cagigao.

“But he decided to join local rivals San Miguel. The club, and I’m  sure the fans, would like to thank Vaz for his efforts at CD Montesinos, and we wish him well,” said Eddie.

One outstanding memory for me, was when Vazquinho held his newly born child in arms for a team photo shoot, before kick off during the 2018-19 season – then unexpectedly left me ‘holding the baby’ to take to his wife, in the stadium.

Vazquinho, in what almost certainly looks like the curtain has finally come down on his love affair with the club, having signed on three separate occasions to don the Los Montesinos based club CD Montesinos colours.

During his era at CD Montesinos, Vaz was top goalscorer and nominated for many awards, by supporters, players and management alike, including the ‘Players Player of the Year’ award.

The club’s opening pre-season friendly game is against Orihuela CF ‘B’ on August 17 at the Municipal Stadium, kick off 7.30pm.

Manager Jesus Santander is expected to receive a warm welcome by supporters, with a squad of 21 players up for selection, including four players formerly at CD Montesinos, returning to the fold.
