President of Torregolf.EU, Rojales based resident David Winder, has retired after serving the 400 members club in a chief capacity.

A new Torregolf.EU committee has been formed to take the club forward in the wake of David stepping down.

Octogenarian David bid farewell to members of Torregolf.EU at the 2019 President’s Day Trophy competition, played at Font del Lop, won by John Stead, returning a score of 41.

“Out of 45 players competing, 31 scored 30+ points – it was very close,” David told me.

David, from Sandhurst, has been at the forefront of Torregolf.EU members, in raising money for the Elche Childrens Care Home, of which 1,200 euros was donated to purchase new curtains and fittings for the bedrooms this year.

David, presented with a plaque by ECCH at the 2019 fourth annual open day for donations received, said: “Thanks goes out to all at Torregolf.EU for their generous support and donations over the years. It’s been a pleasure to help ECCH.”

Charlton Athletic FC supporter David will spend some of his time in retirement, keeping tabs on The Addicks, following their promotion to the Championship last season.
