On Sunday 2nd June Maria and the Pink Ladies and Panthers held the 10th consecutive “Walk for Life” to raise funds on behalf of the AECC.

The event took place from the promenade amphi-theatre Playa Flemenca and was supported by the Orihuela Costa Ayuntamiento, who provide the stage, tables, chairs, toilets and the Local police to marshal the walk.

425 people took part in the actual walk plus pet dogs and little children in strollers.

The entrants paid a registration fee of €5  to take part and in return received an official Pink Ladies “Walk for Life” pink T shirt sponsored this year by Spain Property Shop SL. And a bottle of water donated by Evolution bar from La Fuente.

Once again the weather was fabulous and help set the scene for a great family afternoon beginning with a warm up Zumba presentation performed  by Angie Nichols and her Zumba girls, once the walk was finished live music was provided by some of the coasts top entertainers, all of whom donated their time free of charge.

The artists performing on the day were Al Joel, No Limits, Abba Elite Girls, Morris Dancers, Jacuzz duo, Keily Paige, Johnny Lea, Diane Diaz, Rees, Cindy Fitzpatrick, Nigel Burchill and a Blues Brothers tribute who arrived on stage in an authentic American Police Car. Sunshine FM supported the artists and Stevie Spit hosted the day.

The total raised on the day was €6595.58 but the final figure is expected to be more once all the outstanding sponsorship has been collected and paid in.

A special mention for a young man from Los Dolses, 12 year old Conor Kavanagh who asked if he collected donations from the crowd could he sing on stage, as he did last year when he raised €225, so off he went and smashed last year’s total and he  €375 from the audience and then got his wish to sing to that same audience, well done Connor, see you again next year.

As soon as we have the final figure raised we will notify you of the total raised, all of which will be donated to the AECC to help in the fight against cancer.
