Mojácar Council recently held an extraordinary plenary meeting, in which unanimous approval was given for a series of regulated awards and distinctions of merit to be bestowed on their Police Force.

The Local Police service offers a direct response to the people in the town with a round the clock public service. As an important armed unit, it has a broad and complex range of functions and, these awards are an institutional recognition of officers’ work as well as any exceptional or outstanding actions.

The range of honorary distinctions included those for Individual Public Recognition, as well as variety of Medals given for Merit, Distinguished Services, Long Service to Mojácar and one to the Force as a whole.  All are to be granted following plenary session agreement and the proposal through the Mayor’s Office, following a report by the Chief of Police with the approval of the Area Delegate Councillor for Citizen Security.

Other items on the day’s agenda included the approval of the previous year’s financial  budget surplus implementation, to be used for financially sustainable investments, costing 1,414,633 Euros.  The remainder will be allocated, in accordance with the Budgetary Stability and Financial Sustainability Law, to reduce the remaining debt.

          The designated surplus will be used for a number of works, to schools as well as improvements to lighting, paving and tarmacking around the town.  Two new Police vehicles will also be purchased, along with 8 modules for beach areas and, there will be the construction of a picnic area on the ‘Mena’ walking route.
