Torrevieja council has rushed through a demolition order after rubble and masonry fell from a four storey building in the centre of the town onto the pavement and road below at the corner of Calle Ramon Galud with Calle Maria Parodi.

The property has been in ruin for over ten years but was purchased by a local businessman a little over 12 months ago. On carrying out an inspection of the building it was considered that the joists supporting the structure were badly damaged as a result of which the council was asked to rush the authorisation through.

Although surrounded by safety netting the masonry continued to fall, particularly in the recent winds experienced across the area. As such a demolition company was called in on Monday and after they have secured site the building will be finally knocked down in the coming days.
