CD Montesinos President Felipe Parades spoke exclusively to me after the club lost a thrilling game against 1st Regional leaders Racing San Miguel.

“We fought hard against San Miguel – and I was happy with that fighting spirit, despite losing the game,” Felipe told me.

Racing, red hot favourites to win the title in the 1st Regional Group 8, came up against a Monte team sitting in the lower echelons of the table.

But it was Monte who took the game to the hosts with a spirited display throughout the 90 minutes, only to come away with a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Under new coach Ruben, Monte have found new guile, having chalked up a surprise victory against Santa Pola the previous week.

And the ‘never say die’ attitude was brought to the table again against Racing, who lead the table by seven points going into the game.

“I am happy with the new coach Ruben,” said Felipe, who has promised to add to the squad this month.

“The players are working well under Ruben. And we are hoping to add two new players in the coming weeks,” said Felipe.

Monte suffered injuries to Liam, who was back in the team after a spell on the sidelines, and Macan, who left the field with a groin injury.

After the game Macan exclusively told me: “We needed a little bit more luck and with that we could have taken something from the game.”

Macan added: “In the second half we gave San Miguel a right go – but it wasn’t to be.”

Striker Vazquinho worked hard up front and came close to scoring in the second period: “All the team deserve credit.

“It was a plausible display. Diego was outstanding, but I must credit all the players,” said Felipe.

Monte had not won in eight outings, prior to the win against Santa Pola at the back end of November, that lead to the sacking of Carlos Perez.

Sitting at the wrong end of the table Montesinos, in their second season in the 1st Regional, are looking to get back on a winning track against CF Rafal on December 9 at the Municipal stadium, Los Montesinos.
