On Monday 23rd April, to celebrate World Book Day, Mojácar Council’s Culture and Tourism Departments invited locals and visitors to search in and around the most emblematic places in the Pueblo to find a prize winning ticket for one of the numerous books that have been inspired by the town.

The new idea saw a day with those busy searching every historic nook and cranny in the challenge, mixed with those who were at first oblivious to what was happening before joining in.

The fun competition ended with twenty keen readers from all over Spain finding their literary ‘treasure’ and, with a degree of surprise and delight, the lucky ones went off to the Tourist Office to exchange their hidden ticket for their reward.

Most of those receiving gifts were from visiting groups from the Basque Country, Catalonia and Valencia, with French tourist, Sandrine Bouquet, winning her book right at the end of her holiday. Hopefully, they will all return home with an extra pleasant memory of their stay and, although most were visiting Mojácar for the first time, they all promised to return.

Now, Mojácar Council’s Tourism Department is organising new challenges for other literary Indiana Jones searches for books on Mojácar’s history, a place which has been a source of inspiration for many writers as well as their readers.

Congratulations to all who received a book on the day!
