45 players turned out today in windy conditions to play a Stableford Competition for the Terry Leary Trophy. Terry passed away some years ago but is fondly remembered, not only for his creative use of an old Anglo Saxon word but also for his kindness and sense of humour.

Terry’s daughter Cassie kindly came to present the trophy and also present a lovely bottle of Cava.

The results were as follows: Ist place, winning the trophy was Brendan Young with 34 points off 17.2 – 2nd place John Guest also with 34 points off 11.7 but losing out on countback. 3rd placeSteve Crossan with 32 points off 13.3 – 4th place Peter Chapman also with 32 points off 4.1, losing out on countback. 5th place Donna Green with 31 points off 14.7 – 6th place Russ Peters also with 31 points off 15.3 losing out on countback.

We had 9 guests today, Fiona Sankey, Paul Sankey, George Smith, Chris Riley, Ann Riley, Steve Kirby, Tosh Robb, Brian O’Connor and Peter Jackson. George won the guest prize with 29 points.

Shaun O’Gorman won nearest the pin on hole 5, second shot with 1.74m and Paul Trigwell won on hole 16 with 94cm. Paul failed to putt for a birdie as was helpfully pointed out by his playing partners.

The number of balls in the water was 127, correctly guessed by our Trophy winner Brendan Young, rounding off a great day.

Only one 2 today, letting Ann Riley take home the envelope stuffed with cash.

Next week we have a Combined Pairs competition and if you would like to join us, subject to handicap, please email Penny Barden, pegohandicapsec@gmail.com
