El Vip and Afjaan to shine for Dettori at Haydock

THE YOUNG MASTER (3.35) trained by Neil Mulholland and ridden by Sam Waley-Cohen is tipped in the bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase (Grade 3) over 3 miles 4 furlongs at SANDOWN on Saturday.

“The Young Master’s in grand form, he seems to be suited by the race,” said Mulholland, hoping to repeat The Young Master’s 2016 Gold Cup success.

The Young Master – a faller at the sixth fence in the Aintree Grand National at Bechers – won the bet365 Gold Cup last year, when beating 2015 winner Just A Par – with Mulholland’s The Druids Nephew fifth.

“The Druids Nephew ran a very good race to finish fifth last year – he was beaten only about seven lengths,” said Mulholland, who also saddles Doing Fine.

“Doing Fine was good at Cheltenham last week – and was second in the London National so has form at the course. I hope one of them can win,” said Mulholland.

The Phillip Hobbs-Richard Johnson combination are strongly fancied at Sandown in the bet365 Oaksey Chase (Grade 2) run over 2 miles 6 furlongs with MENORAH (2.25).

Nicky Henderson’s ALTIOR (3.00) ridden by Nico de Boinville is odds-on to land the bet365 Celebration Chase (Grade 1) over 1 mile 7 furlongs.

Nigel Twiston-Davies trained THE NEW ONE (4.10 ) ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies is expected to give a good account in the bet365 Select Hurdle (Grade 2) over 2 miles 5 furlongs.

Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville will be hoping that THEINVAL (4.45) can improve on finishing second in the last three outings by taking the bet365 Josh Gifford Novices’ Handicap Chase (Class 2) over 2 miles 4 furlongs.

At HAYDOCK Ruth Carr’s ADVENTUREMAN (1.30) is worthy of each-way support in the Live Casino At 188Bet Handicap over 1 mile. Ridden by Jack Garrity, Adventureman won off a 3lb lower mark at Musselburgh over a mile, and finished fourth last time out behind Cosmic Ray.

Luca Cumani trained EL VIP (2.05) ridden by Frankie Dettori is well in at the weights in the Champions League Betting At 188Bet Handicap (Class 2) over 1 mile. El Vip won at Leicester over 1 mile last season and finished third at Bath on his 2017 reappearance.

AFJAAN (2.40) ridden by Dettori is expected to be in the frame in the Best Odds Guaranteed At 188Bet Handicap (Class 2) over 7 furlongs.

Five year old Afjaan, trained by Willie Haggas, ended the 2016 campaign season in big-field Ascot handicaps, 4th of 19 and 7th of 18, having won at Kempton in September, and looks worthy of support.

MAGHFOOR (3.15) ridden by Jim Crowley and trained by Saeed Bin Suroor is entered in both the English and Irish Derbies and is tipped to land the 188bet.co.uk Maiden Stakes over 1 mile 3 furlongs.

Richard Kingscote takes the mount of Tom Dascombe’s SIDEWINDER (4.20) in the Ticket Giveaways At 188Bet Handicap over 1 mile.

Three year old Sidewinder ran second at Wolverhampton in March over 7 furlongs and has been there or thereabouts in the last four outings.

Rebecca Menzies trained KINGTHISTLE (4.55) ridden by Graham Lee is tipped to land the Boxing Betting At 188Bet Handicap over 1 mile 2 furlongs. Kingthistle a winner at Wolverhampton and Kempton, finished third over 1 mile 2 furlongs on April 11 at Pontefract.

At RIPON David O’Meara trained ROUSAYAN (2.45) ridden by Daniel Tudhope is tipped to go well in the RiponBET Place6 Lucky Dip Handicap (Class 3) over 1 mile. Rousayan finished 2nd of 13 runners in October; 4th of 13 in September; and 3rd of 13 at Haydock in 2016.

Trained by Roger Fell, Muntabad, who has won over 7 furlongs-1 mile 2 furlongs races, won at Doncaster over 6 furlongs in October. David O’Meara’s Out Do won a Listed race at York in 2015.

Saeed Bin Surror’s GOOD RUN (3.55) will hopefully do just that – in the Download The Free attheraces App Handicap (Class 2) over 2 miles. 

Good Run won at Newcastle in November over 2 miles and the Godolphin horse is expected to shine under Sean Levy.

The Tom Dascombe-Franny Norton combination link up with CYMRO (4.30) in the M.C.H. Hutchinson Memorial Handicap (Class 2) over 1 mile 4 furlongs.

Cymro, a winner on good ground at Haydock in September, also won at Thirsk over 1 mile 4 furlongs in April 2016.

Willie Haggas trained DAAWY (5.05) a 110,000 guineas yearling, related to Group Three winner Stellar Mass, is entered in the Derby. Despite finishing sixth at Newmarket last week is tipped to win.

COOLFITCH (5.40) trained by David O’Meara and ridden by Daniel Tudhope won twice in 2016 over 5 furlongs.

Coolfitch, who ran sixth of 14 runners at Nottingham this month, is tipped to land the Traditional Family Funday Sunday 21st May Handicap (Class 4) over 5 furlongs.
