In association with the Guardamar council, the Association of Southeast Naturalists (ANSE), spent much of last weekend removing a variety of alien flora and fauna that had been spreading out of control across the Dunes of Guardamar del Segura adjacent to the mouth of the River Segura.

However, as these invasive species were removed they were replaced by other, more appropriate plants, which are said to be better suited to the local area. The naturalists were joined by a number of volunteers who all gave of their free time to ensure that the task was completed.

A spokesman for ANSE said it was important that certain plants were removed allowing the further cultivation of more appropriate flora which would be carefully irrigated in the coming weeks as the group developed their voluntary activities in the area.
