A fund raising meal was held recently in Mojácar on behalf of the Universal Wonderful Street Academy, a NGO (non-government organisation) in support of orphaned or abandoned children of Accra in Ghana.

This non-profit society was set up in 2012 by the singer Louis Wonder, in order to help children living on the streets by providing them with an education, health care and a daily meal, all free of charge.

To support and help raise funds for the Universal Wonderful Street Academy, a branch of this charity group was created in Mojácar, the only one in Spain. This non-bureaucratic body spends its donated resources directly on the children and maintaining their school.

This solidarity meal was just one of the various activities that this NGO carries out in Mojácar. It was attended by the Mayor of Mojácar, Rosmari Cano and Councillors, Raquel Belmonte, for Culture and Emmanuel Agüero, for Tourism, representatives of a council that always collaborates with all the initiatives that are carried out in Mojácar.

Sara Lark, the well-known writer, who actively participates with the Mojácar group in support of these children, was among the large number of people who wanted to support this initiative.

Beatriz García, head of the Mojácar branch of the Universal Wonderful Street Academy, has been organizing solidarity projects in Mojácar for more than five years and, has come up with many new ideas to raise funds to provide education for Ghana’s most disadvantaged children.
