Last Sunday Mojácar saw the fifth edition of the now traditional Half Marathon and the 7 kilometre “Ciudad de Mojácar” race, organized by the Town Council and the Nogalte Athletics Club.

A total of three hundred and fifty-five participants competed in the events on a circuit which was laid out especially by the Municipality of Mojácar around the area of Marina de la Torre. 150 runners from all over Andalucia and other Autonomous Communities participated in the 21 kilometre Half Marathon. In this event, the winner was local runner Juan Manuel Tejada Martínez, in a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 47 seconds. The winner of the female category of the Half Marathon was Esther Galvez Jimenez, with a time of 1 hour, 31 minutes, 58 seconds.

The 7-kilometer race was won by Juan Emilio Miras Costa, from Totana, with a time of 23 minutes and in the female category Mari Carmen Romero Molina, of Puerto Lumbreras, came home first with a time of 29 minutes and 47 seconds.

The increasing number of competitors, year after year, and the participation of both amateur and professional runners is a great indicator of the successful organization of the event. Equally noteworthy is that the race was run without any incident or casualties among the athletes.

The awards ceremony was held at the Oasis Tropical Hotel on Mojácar Beach, with the prizes being presented by Ana García Fernández, the Mojácar Councillor for Sports along with the Councillor for Beaches, Diego García Montoya.
