Two swimmers with symptoms of immersion syndrome were rescued in two separate incidents this weekend, one off the cost of San Pedro del Pinatar, the other off Cartegena.

In Lo Pagán, San Pedro, a man in his 70´s has swallowed water in the Mar Menor and was giving medical attention at the beach before being transferred to hospital.

An hour earlier, at Cala Cortina in Cartagena, a man in his 20´s was suffering breathing difficulties whilst swimming and was pulled from the sea, unconscious, before being given lifesaving treatment and then also being transferred to hospital.

The beaches have been at their busiest this weekend on account of the holiday.
