Due to the new road link being opened, some of our players were confused and thought that they were going to Albacete instead, consequently arriving a little later than planned. This resulted in a rather packed and raucous first tee off for some of the players. We did all get under way, albeit somewhat slowly, and the first nine holes were only completed in just under 3 hours. The speed of play did improve on the back nine and most rounds were completed in less than 5 hours. Wherever possible gentlemen and ladies, please be ready to play when it is your turn, and try and read your putts before your turn, as this does help to speed up play.
The course was in fairly good condition and was playing fairly easy, resulting in some good scores on the day. After watching some of our players who had been celebrating the previous night, it is obvious that in order to chip in from off the green, and hole outrageous putts, it is necessary to turn up slightly the worse for wear, as this facilitates extraordinary skills! Putting was obviously very easy out there as 6 players recorder 2's on the day: Coleman Fox, Kevin Hamilton, Roger Paul, Derek Bowen, Peter Robinson and Albert Thrupp. Nearest the pins: Hole 4 - Derek Bowen, Hole 6 - Simon Harmon, Hole 11 - Peter Robinson, Hole 17 - George Thomas.
The best scores on the day were as follows: 2nd with 37 points - Peter Robinson and 1st with a monumental score of 42 points - Joe Savage. Congratulations to all of our winners. This leaves just one more game to decide the destiny of this years Presidents Cup, which looks to be a 2 horse race. Currently still in pole position is long time leader Guy Wade-Palmer, but he is being relentlessly hunted down by our league captain Denis McCormack, who is only 4 points behind. Who will win will be decided at Bonalba on the 23rd March.
Our next meeting is at Maguire's on 9th March, to take bookings for Bonalba. The day after sees our league team at Hacienda del Alamo, for their penultimate match of the season against a strong La Manga team currently occupying the slot above us in the league at the moment. Good luck to the team.
