This Saturday, 12th September, sees the official launching of the International Cofradia’s appeal for dried foods.
The dried foods will be given to the local Cáritas organisation in Torrevieja and the aim is to collect at least the weight of the paso that the International Costaleros carry in the Easter parades. The paso of ‘La Oración de Nuestro Padre Jesús en el Huerto de los Olivos’ (Jesus in the Garden of Olives weighs 1,500 kilogrammes.
The appeal is being officially launched at the Cofradia’s barbecue to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cofradia and the fifth anniversary of the International Cofradia carrying the paso through the streets of the town. Everyone attending the event, which is for members of the cofradia past and present and their partners, will be expected to bring one kilo of a suitable dried food such as dried pulses or pasta. This is an appeal that members of the cofradia hope others will join in and contribute to. All you have to do is buy a one kilo packet of dried food such as lentils, chickpeas or pasta and bring it along to one of the official collection points that have agreed to be part of this appeal. So far the following places have kindly agreed to be collection points:
The Windsor Tavern in San Luis
The Hollywood Bar in Los Dolces
Chadwicks in Villamartin
The London Bar in Los Dolces
The CoastRider Offices in Torrevieja
The OARI office in Torrevieja
The Silverline Body Toning Salon in Calle Niagra Playa Flammenca
The Hampshire Hog in Torreta III
Tonetasic Salon in Los Montesinos
Timeless Fashions in Punta Prima
The organisers are still looking for more places to join in, so if you have a bar, restaurant or other business and would like to be part of this appeal and be a collection point please let the organisers know by contacting either Bob Hill on 965 329 122 or 649 062 189 or Ted Marsh on 966 721 649.
The appeal will run until the last day of October so there is plenty of time to make your donations.
