Algeciras Drugs Gang Smashed

Over 4000 kilos of hashish were seized by Guardia Civil on Friday in a major police operation concentrated in the region just to the north of Gibraltar. The investigation began last July and was concentrated on an organisation based in Algeciras. It is understood that the gang had international outlets which operated from Altea and Seville.
Initially five arrests were made in Altea where almost 3500 kilos of the drug were seized. Following on from that, further raids were made in Algeciras and Tarifa where substantial quantities were also confiscated. Subsequent enquiries resulted in the arrests of 14 gang members three of whom were of Moroccan descent.
Police also seized three luxury cars, various properties, cellular phone equipment and documents that are being studied and could lead to other arrests. An additional 1,000 kilos of hashish were confiscated in two separate police actions in Malaga.
