The Fitur International Tourism Fair in Madrid has been well represented by local Town Halls all promoting the area as a great holiday destination.
Orihuela was well represented by Monica Lorente and other local politicians. They also took along Paca, a local cook, who tempted passersby at the fair by her typical Orihuela fare; meat ball stew and date and fig sweets. Orihuela was also officially awarded the Q for Quality flags for three beaches in Orihuela Costa; Cala Capitan, Cala Estaca and La Glea de Campoamor.
They were not the only ones to receive the Q for Quality flags. San Javier Councillor for Tourism was awarded, for the third year running, two, for beaches in Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor.
Cartagena received Q for Quality flags for ten beaches in the area, making it the region in Spain which has received the most flags. The prize winning beaches are Cala Cortina, Islas Menores, Playa Honda, Mar de Cristal, Cala del Pino, Playa del Cavanna, Playa del Barco Perdido, Playa del Galia, Playa de Levante and Playa de La Gola.
All in all 72 flags were awarded to Spanish beaches, meaning these beaches are not only clean but also offer life guards, are safe, have leisure activities, beach bars, etc.
