The 4th Annual Gala Evening and Dinner, organised by Los Amigos de Mazarron FC in support of Mazarron Football Club, will be held at the Hotel la Cumbre, Puerto de Mazarron on Tuesday 12th March 2013. The speaker will be Steve Daley the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City player who became Britain’s second million pound footballer, after Trevor Francis, when he joined Manchester City from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1979 for a British record transfer fee of £1,437,500.

His transfer to Manchester City was later described in an article in The Observer as “the biggest waste of money in football history”. Steve is now acknowledged as one of the best and funniest after dinner speakers on the circuit and was voted Football Speaker of the Year in 2009 and 2010.His act includes a scathing self-assessment of his time at Maine Road with Manchester City. Steve later had a more successful spell in the United States with Seattle Sounders and San Diego Sockers and he made 6 appearances for the England “B” team.

Los Amigos de Mazarron FC is delighted to announce that the event will again be jointly sponsored by New Images, the No. 1 Hair and Beauty Salon & Nail Bar of Centro Commercial, Sector B, Camposol and Ibex Insurance of Avenida Doctor Mesa S/N, Centro Commercial Upper Local 2, Puerto de Mazarron. New Images have been joint sponsors of the event for each of the four years since its inception and it is Ibex’s second year as joint sponsor.

Master and Ceremonies for the evening will be Pat Martin who will also be entertaining guests with his unique brand of comedy and there will again be music and dancing to the fabulous sounds of The Beagles. It is hoped that Tony Currie, ex Sheffield United, Leeds and England and Mark Higgins formerly of Everton and Manchester United will again be present. Tony is the Los Amigos de Mazarron FC UK Ambassador and has attended the last two Gala Evenings

Ticket prices have been kept the same as last year at €40 with a limited number of VIP tickets at €50. The VIP tickets include admission to a VIP reception to welcome Steve Daley and other guests to Mazrron. This will be held on Monday 11th March at Don Ricardo’s Restaurant, Puerto de Mazarron. Steve’s wife will be accompanying him and they will spend four days in Mazarron.

One of the highlights of the evening will again be the auction of football and other sporting memorabilia with many English teams again supporting the efforts of Los Amigos de Mazarron FC in raising funds for Mazarron FC. The three previous Gala Evenings and Dinners with Dave Bassett, Jan Molby and Duncan McKenzie as guest speakers have raised almost €10,000.
