FOOTBALL EXTRAVAGANZA TO RAISE CASH FOR CANCER
Kevin Reardon / 2012-07-29 16:48:06
A fundraiser with a difference will take place next Sunday, 5 August, at THE VILLAGE IN, Campoverde, where all monies raised will be donated to Cancer Charities.
The event is being organised by the bar together with local resident Ashley Scopp who’s wife died of the disease in January leaving him with 5 children, one of whom is suffering from Down’s Syndrome. The day will culminate with a football extravaganza in which current Premier League Referee, Mark Halsey, who has overcome throat cancer himself, will join our own football hard man Roy McDonough (Red Card Roy), former player and manager with Birmingham City, Chelsea and Colchester Utd, for a question and answer session.
The day has come about very much as a result of a chance meeting at a recent Horadada football match where the parties met. Brief discussion followed, during it was agreed to organise the event prior to Mark returning to UK for the start of the new season.
The day itself will kick off at 10.30am on Sunday morning during which there will be Killer Karaoke, Flamenco Dancing, Live Acts and a Charity Auction. Food will be available all day with special meal deals which will culminate at 6pm with Mark and Roy and the Question and Answer session.
Items to be auctioned will include a signed football shirt, and a signed advance copy of Roy McDonough’s new book ‘Red Card Roy’ described by football legend John Motson as the best football book ever, due to hit the shelves next month.
Being a charity function all those going along are encouraged to bring a donation or a prize for the raffle. Call Simon or Jayne on 966 76 3386 for further info.
