ARBOLEAS CONSIDERING INTERNET FOR ALL

Internet access for everybody. This is the ambition of the mayor of Arboleas, Cristóbal Garcia (PA), who is already studying the possibility of providing a high speed and low cost internet connection for the entire population of the municipality arboleano.
"The town is out of range of normal networks. The Telefonica substations in Albox and Zurgena don’t reach us. Arboleas is in the middle of the road to nowhere, "explains Garcia.
These difficulties mean that very few residents in the town have a decent network connection, unless they pay an awful lot of money.
He therefore hopes that the town itself will be able to provide its residents with the necessary services to the Internet using a wireless connection (WIFI), as "an enterprise or non-profit making service. In addition to expanding the coverage of existing ADSL connection in the area the aim will be to reduce costs and enable residents who want to use the service to save a few euros by reducing the amount of their monthly bill.
The amount payable when the facility is eventually brought into service by the local government system would be about 10 euros per connection.
One other factor that the mayor feels is particularly important with regard to the introduction of the internet to more households is training townsfolk in the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT).
The mayor is a regular user of the social network Facebook, where he shares his experiences and ideas and in so doing he gains regular feedback from residents. He says that he feels that his task would be made much easier if more people were aware of what was going on locally which would enable them to also become a greater part of the decision making process.
