The Executive Committee of C.L.A.R.O. accepted an invitation from the Orihuela Popular Party to meet on Wednesday , 23 May.
At this meeting the PP presented its proposals to bring about a legal change of government to replace the present three-party administration which has been placed in a minority as a result of its failure, after nine months, to sustain the support of the C.L.A.R.O. councillor.
The three-party government is increasingly discredited due to its lack of cohesion, internal divisions and the absence of an agreed common programme of government. It is increasingly unable to obtain majority approval in the plenary meetings of the Council for its proposals. Last week it failed to obtain a majority of votes for its budget proposals for 2012 and lost a subsequent vote of confidence.
At their meeting on 23 May, the Popular Party invited C.L.A.R.O. to begin the negotiation of a government pact which would enable the two parties to form an alternative government capable of providing an efficient, stable and coherent government in the interest of all of Orihuela. The aim of a PP-CLARO government would be to ensure for Orihuela Costa an efficient and fair administration, close to the people and represented by the councillor who received a majority of the Orihuela Costa votes in the 2011.
C.L.A.R.O. expressed its interest in studying positively the proposal of the Popular Party to bring about a change of government and accepted the proposal to begin negotiation of an agreement which would enable the formation of a joint PP-CLARO government.
