WINDSOR TAVERN MARATHON FOR ALZHEIMER’S
Contributor / 2012-04-17 06:56:59
A long day – but a thrilling one was experienced last Saturday at the Windsor Tavern in San Luis, organised by Lloyd Webb, a member of the Windsor Tavern Darts Team.
The team started their marathon at 12 noon sharp, each leg being 10 games, and as the afternoon wore on, the tension mounted as the skill of the players changed the leader from one to the other, and the various goals were noted – who had the highest finish (there was a trophy for this) who won the most ‘legs’ (there was obviously a trophy for this), etc.
The final leg was played and the winner was Mick McGovern, after a playoff with Peter Buckley. The score for the highest finish remained with Peter at 109. At 10.00pm everyone sank into their seats, happy but very tired, it had been a long, long day.
There were also various other fundraising activities – guess the weight of the lovely fruit cake ( 3lbs 1oz ) how many sweets in the jar ( 475 and a guess of 501 won it ) and a raffle with a magnificent 30+ prizes, all donated by supporters. A very big thank you also goes to Lloyds’ ‘little helpers’ Joan, Ian, Ruby and Donna ( the landlady) with many more, and all your help was so appreciated.
All in all, a great day and a truly great donation to the Torrevieja Alzheimer’s Association (AFA) of 586 euros .
What a result !!!
