Twenty-three families on low income have been awarded homes in the Almeria province through a special programme from Social Work La Caixa. It means they now have affordable living with rents ranging between 85-150€ per month.
A total of 474 people have requested inclusion in the programme 'Solidarity Rental' of which 23 homes have now been awarded in 7 municipalities throughout the Almeria province. All have been offered with cheap rental, aimed at either those on a low income or those home owners who have been unable to keep up with their mortgage repayments.
The Real Estate department of the bank, Servihabitat, is responsible for ensuring that housing conditions of the properties are improved so that the properties can be occupied again, while the Welfare department of La Caixa is managing the overall program.
The scheme will be developed in several phases, which will offer a total of 159 households in the province of Almeria. Currently, in this first phase, the 23 tenants are divided between properties in Roquetas de Mar, El Ejido, Cuevas del Almanzora, Vicar, Huércal Overa, Macael and Olula del Rio. It is not yet known when all the various phases will be completed.
With a total of 3,000 apartments spread throughout Spain, the program 'Solidarity Rent' provides homes for a monthly average rental price of between 170 and 300€. However La Caixa bank will subsidise half the rent, so that tenants pay between 85 and 150€ per month.
The programme is aimed at households with incomes of less than 2.5 times the minimum wage, ie. households not receiving an income of more 18,600€ per year. The minimum income, shall not be less than 6,000€ per year, as this ensures that the rent will not be more than 30% of household income. The validity of the rent will be 5 years.
You can still apply
There is still just enough time to apply to be considered for the scheme as the application deadline ends tomorrow, Tuesday 31st January. If you wish to participate in the programme you can do so via the La Caixa website www.obrasocial.lacaixa.es/ or by visiting your local branch of La Caixa.
Following that, on Wednesday 15th February a draw will be held amongst all applicants that meet all the requirements if demand exceeds supply. Those lucky enough to be selected will be offered housing straight away as homes have already been built and prepared for the 23 new tenants.
