The Orihuela Costa and District Branch of The Royal British Legion held their Christmas Branch meeting on Thursday 15 December at The Olympia Restaurant in Mil Palmeras where they announced the amount the branch had raised from this year’s Poppy Appeal as an amazing €26,420. 90.
Branch Chairman Keith Carter said that this was a fantastic achievement. An increase of just under €6,000 on last year. Keith added that this amount raised was down to the very kind donations made by everyone within the Orihuela Costa area. It is important to note especially the golf society's, the collections at Airports, San Javier Iceland the many Bars, Restaurants, Clubs, markets and businesses that held fund raising activities throughout the year as well as those which took in Poppies and boxes during the period of the actual appeal. Thank you all.
Donations will go a long way towards helping dependants of the many service personnel who have been killed in all conflicts. Funds will also be used to support those who have been injured, who have fallen on hard times or succumbed to sickness and now require help from our welfare departments.
Keith also said that without the hard work and dedication of his team of officers, and the members of The Orihuela Costa and District Branch, this achievement would not have been possible.
Following the announcement and the monthly meeting Cathy Carson and TAABS entertained a bumper crowd with carols and songs to celebrate the festive season.
Anyone wishing to join the branch would be most welcome to do so. Meetings take place at the Olympia Restaurant Mil Palmeras every 3rd Thursday of the month 7 for 7.30 pm.
