Although rain, at times in torrents, fell from the skies, F.A.C.E. (Fundraising in Arboleas, Caring For Everyone) supporters, British and Spanish, still battled through the bleak mid winter to visit the F.A.C.E. Christmas market, which was held at the Salón del Ayuntamiento in Arboleas.
The market was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Arboleas, Roger Done, and F.A.C.E. President Adele Wrigglesworth.
As well as market stalls filled with many tempting products for the Christmas season, there was a full entertainment programme. This featured "Carrie's Dusty Boots" Line Dancers, who performed to music from the film "Burlesque" and to a trio of Christmas hit songs. The fabulous Voices of Almanzora Choir led by Trudie Louch, sang familiar Christmas numbers from around the world and groups of young children from the Arboleas district, performed some sparkling dance routines and sang traditional Spanish Carols. Back ground music was provided by Peter Williams.
Other Christmas traditional and not so traditional treats were also available. Mulled wine and mince pies were on sale, as were hamburgers, cheeseburgers and bacon baps.
Santa Claus had been approached by the F.A.C.E. Committee and had managed at this very busy time of the year for him, to make a flying visit to Arboleas with one of his elves.
The aim of the market was to raise funds for the various charities which F.A.C.E. Have supported over the last year. Amongst these have been M.A.C.S. (Mojacar Area Cancer Support), Age Concern España, the A.E.C.C. (Asociación Española Contra el Cancer) and ALCER (A Spanish Association who give assistance to people suffering from Renal illnesses).
The climax of the evening was the draw of a raffle which F.A.C.E. Had organised. The top prize of 200 € was won by Brenda Paton.
The main winners of the evening though were the charities that F.A.C.E. Continue to support. Over 2000 € was raised by the evenings activities, although we are still counting and the final figure should be higher.
F.A.C.E. Would like to thank all the local businesses who provided support with donations of sponsorship and donations of raffle prizes. F.A.C.E. Would also like recorded much appreciation to all the wonderful helpers - too many to name, but you all know who you are - that voluntarily gave their time and energy to make the evening the success it was.
