Following months of mixed knockout matches, the final of the Club’s Challenge Cup was played on Sunday 20th November. An enthralling match was won by Robin Lowman who overcame the intense challenge of Ian Chapman 21-14 in front of a very enthusiastic crowd of spectators.
This match followed two days of an open house whereby we tried to encourage others within La Manga Club to try the sport for the first time and what a successful two days they were. With first class coaching and supportive help from other members, conducted in a very friendly atmosphere, we expect a number of the participants to join the Bowls Club; they enjoyed the day so much (the Cava and nibbles may have helped).
Once again we were shown how to play on carpet by Emerald Isle Claymores losing the match 71-154 but the close scores on three rinks gives us hope for the future. Is it conceivable for us to win a match away from home? Perhaps wishful thinking!! The rinks scores were:- Jean Ibbotson/ John Grace/ Robin Lowman 15-18, Richard Caley/ Ann Grace/ Ian Chapman 14-21, Marion Fisher/ Philip Don/ Michael Warwick 13-28, Ully Simon/ Sarah Lowman/ Stuart Fisher 15-22, Margaret Caley/ Ron Stokes/ Sue Letby 10-32, Brenda Stokes/ John Cooper/ Brian Simon 4-33.
