DOLORES CATTLE FAIR CANCELLED

Authorities say that the Feria de Ganado de Dolores, the Dolores Cattle Fair, will not be held this year because of the economic crisis. This was confirmed last week by Mayor Gabriel Gascon who said that the Council could not afford the annual subsidy of approximately 150,000 euro.
Gascón said that the measure was "tough but necessary" and required so as to maintain necessary funding of social services department which he felt were more important that a cultural or festive activity despite it being attended by thousands of visitors every year.
Although there is no evidence that the origins of the Fegado are from Dolores the fair has been held in the town for the last two decades which has gained much recognition in the district and province. But with savings made from the cancellation the City Council is able to maintain the grant of 25,000 euros for school transport throughout the year.
The measure will also allow the municipal bus line to continue between the town and the Vega Baja hospital.
