The National Police have arrested a Sunderland woman on suspicion of the murder of her husband. The man was found dead having suffered a deep stab wound received at his home, in the Altavista complex, in Torremuelle, where the couple are believed to have been living for six months.
In a statement issued to the press the police said that they were first alerted by a British neighbour in the early hours of Monday morning at their station in Torremolinos who said they were woken at 2am by the screams of the woman as she called for help.
They quickly moved officers and medical services to the scene but when they entered the apartment they discovered the man, aged 57 and also from Sunderland, lying naked in a pool of blood on the living room floor. On arrival they could only certify the Briton’s death due to the wound. The home was visited by investigators from the Special Violent Crime Unit who were later joined by Forensic science officers.
It is said the woman, whose details have not been released except for her initials MC, initially told detectives the apartment had been raided by three armed men, one of whom had stabbed her partner in a struggle.
Following an inspection of the scene, the officers arrested the wife of the dead man confirming that they were not seeking anyone else.
The woman, MC aged 48, is now being detained in Torremolinos (Malaga). The judicial authority has ordered the removal of the body subsequently issuing a statement saying that they are not aware of the existence of any complaints suggesting that the marriage had a history of domestic violence.
Residents of the complex, which is used by many Britons, are in shock at the killing.
