FUN IN THE SUN AT ENTRE NARANJOS

Three days of fun in the sun may seem like a long time, but for the many people who attended the Entre Naranjos fiesta, it wasn´t long enough.
The Mayor of Entre Naranjos, John Reynolds, opened the event and dedicated the entire fiesta to Antonio Garcia, who had organised a similar event last year, but sadly past away.
Then the fun began. With the most varies line up of entertainers, from swing to rock, dancers to comedy, there was something for everyone.
The Exite Radio roadshow was on hand providing the entertainment and Andy Jones started the first day, giving a superb range of songs, Dave Jay was like The Rat Pack and Cindy Van Asperen and her ladies gave us an insight into the new keep fit craze that is sweeping the globe, Zumba dancing. The fantastic Red Strokes had the crowd dancing to country and western and street dancer Bboy Swagger, otherwise known as Jordan Simpson, showed off exactly why he has won awards.
On Tuesday, Stu Solo started us off and as well as some of the acts from day one, we were joined by singing saxophonist Shirelle, Ruby Blues and comedy entertainer Lynden B.
On the final day, Exite Radio´s Julie McCracken and Paul Cullen showed off their singing talents, along with the fantastic Rob Bloomer as Just Bono, Andy McBride as Rod Stewart and rock and roller Kye James. Not wanting to feel left out of the talent mix, both of Exite Radio´s breakfast presenters Mark Rose and Mark Nolan were taught some dance moves by Bboy Swagger, before facing the audience in a 3 round dance off.
In the audience vote, Mark Nolan was victorious, but the Mayor had the deciding vote and chose Bboy Swagger as the overall winner.
There were around 100 market stalls on hand for the entire 3 days, selling everything from tools to tins of beans, as well as a selection of food stalls, bouncy castles and trampolines and The Inn at the Green provided free face painting for the kids.
On Wednesday we were joined by a range of classic cars, which proved a popular attraction for the visitors.
The atmosphere was electric and everybody had a fantastic time. Not only were the residents impressed by the range of activities, but many people attended the fiesta by either driving there, or travelling on the free buses provided by the Orihuela town hall.
On too many occasions to count, the most popular phrase of the fiesta was “Entre Naranjos is finally on the map” and given the number of people who attended from around the area, that notion is clearly carried through.
It is hoped that next year´s fiesta will be even bigger and better, but given the reactions of all those involved and those who attended, that will be a hard task to achieve. There is no doubt that the Entre Naranjos fiesta was the summer event of the year and if you missed out, you will just have to wait for the next one.
