4,532 LITRES OF RUM FOR SALE
Staff Reporter / 2010-07-12 15:03:40
Quorhum rum from the Dominican Republic may not be very well known, although those in the know say it is of excellent quality, but it may become very popular in Spain shortly. The port of Cartagena is about to auction 22 barrels, or 4,400 litres, and 132 bottles of this Caribbean favourite, on July 21st. The starting price is 21,000 euros, which works out at about 4.70 euros a litre.
If you are thinking of bidding, to acquire a never ending supply of your favourite tipple, then stop right there. Only authorised businesses can bid for this product. A sanitary licence is necessary, as the rum will have to be bottled. The most likely outcome is that a liquor factory will buy the rum, as the bottles will have to be sealed and labelled. The rum was the property of a well known businessman in the city of Cartagena, well known for not paying his debts and for swindles.
He owes the port authorities 21,000 euros, hence the minimum asking price.
On previous such occasions no one has bid for the auctioned products. If this is the case again then the rum will be sold on the internet.
