By Staff Reporter / 2010-07-02 13:04:41
Fortuna is a spa town situated 25km northwest of the city of Murcia near to the border of the province. It has a population of over 6,500 residents and it has 11 districts. Set in the mountains or near there, hidden between the gorges of ´´La sierra del Baño´´ it was built around the hot springs and it’s situated in the basin of the River Segura. Its average temperature is 20ºC and its excellent climate converts Fortuna into a special place to take part in outdoor activities during the whole year.
Fortuna happens to be one of the main centres of Health Tourism in Spain and even in Europe. Famous for its hot springs which were greatly appreciated by the Romans, Fortuna is fast becoming popular once again as the town becomes an important centre for hydrotherapy, beauty treatments and other therapies associated with the natural hot mineral water. Its spring waters are beneficial for the treatment of rheumatic and respiratory illnesses and also for the prevention of these illnesses.
Fortuna is a typical Spanish town, as yet unexploited, with peaceful streets and a white church with a curious tower. For country lovers, to the south of Fortuna, there is a large lake, enclosed in a nature preservation area and surrounded by woods, ideal for walking or fishing. Its more than 2,000 years of history proved by the existence of its many roman remains, and it’s very likely that the roman temple discovered in the old water spring, was venerated by the roman God of Fortune.
