S.A.B.A. The season has kicked off in fantastic style as all three teams got a few good points on the board. The Moors started off playing at home against Country Bowls Foxes winning 11 points to 3 with the shots being 102 to the Foxes 79. Meanwhile the Christians travelled to La Siesta to play the Hornets and won 4 rinks and the overall shots to give them 10 points to the Hornets 4, the friendly had a good go but lost this time. Also playing away were the Crusaders who were at Quesada taking on the Lancasters and not to be outdone by the Moors won a very handy 11 points to the Lancasters 3, the shots were 114 to the Crusaders and 78 to the Lancasters. The Crusaders fielded a friendly who did the business by winning 19 shots to 7 Great start everyone.
Federation Fours. The Harriers had no game this week
The Hawks went to San Luis and found it hard going but an enjoyable morning was had by all. I am sorry to have to report that David Bentley passed away Wednesday he was 84 and a founder member of San Miguel bowls club. Our condolences are extended to family and friends.
On Thursday 15th April the Welsh Commonwealth team will play at San Miguel against our players before their two day match on 16th and 17th at Emerald Isle against the Spanish Squad. They are playing on carpet in preparation for the Commonwealth games which take place this year in India. If you want to see some fantastic bowling please come along to these venues and watch the top Welsh guys including young Chris Blake, Rob Weale who is ex World Singles champ and so is Jason Greenslade. Marc Wyatt, who has a great firing shot. Martin Selway will lead in the Pairs. Weale and Greenslade won the Pairs at the Atlantic Rim and were superb. I don’t have any information on the ladies team but I am sure they will be just as impressive as the men. This will be Spain’s biggest test ever, don’t miss out.
Our Open Forum took place on Thursday and was lively as usual. Thanks to President Harry Sharpe who, as always conducted the meeting like a finely tuned orchestra. The Presentation dinner takes place at Cheers Bar on Sunday 18th April. Only a few seats left. This week’s lottery bonus ball winners were, Margaret Thompson and John Staden.
