LA SIESTA BOWLS REPORT
Steve Hibberd / 2010-02-08 14:39:06
Greetings fellow green bowlers, to yet another weekly review of what's been happening at La Siesta green bowls club. Ok, let's start with news of the new federation 3 rinks league. The opening game witnessed San Miguel as visitors, in what proved to be a good win for La Siesta by 6 points to 2. J Gardiner, J Johnson, C Chorley, G Rothwell 30-15 and D Buchanan, S Hibberd, J Cooper, T Pilling 22-17, won their rinks along with a bonus 2 points for superior shots difference.
Three days later, a visit to County bowls proved a harder task, for only the rink of D Buchanan, S Hibberd, P Rhodes, H Rhodes 30-15 won, but a 59-59 shots difference resulted in a 3-5 defeat.
In the SABA league, the Apollos recorded a superb 12-2 victory over Country Bowls Supernovas courtesy of this little lot: J Gardiner, I Kenyon, Jean Cooper 37-4, C Jackson, D Buchanan, T Pilling 33-9. B Cooper, P Hutton, H Barnby 16-8. S Lawson, S Hibberd, D Livesey 18-17. J Johnson, J Parker, G Rothwell 22-13.
Meanwhile, over at Greenlands, the Pioneers struggled against a strong looking Yellows side, with this sole trips team gaining 2 points: B Jordan, R Sinclair, V Mahomet 27-8.
Heard about the slightly confused chap who chalked the jack, instead of a team mates wood? Strange but true, this unusual incident occurred during a recent chicken and egg competition, when a certain Fred Tripp quickly realised that the expression, 'should've gone to Specsavers!', definitely applies to him. Jim Clarke won the chicken, Alister Mathieson the wine and Joe Soap (or just Joe) took home the eggs.
What a superb set of results for our 3 Southern league sides. Leading the way were the Silvers, whose 14-0 demolition of Mazarron Miners lifted them to 3rd in B div. Absolutely spiffing: S Chorley, J Clarke, C Chorley 16-10. A Heath, R Heath, J Cooper 15-14. G Sheldon, R Sheldon, V Mahomet 24-14. J Elkin, R Sinclair, J Mullarkey 24-12. S Oram, P Barber, H Rhodes 23-8. S Lawson, J Johnson, I Kenyon 40-4.
Also at home were A div high flyers Blues, whose 12-2 victory over Emerald Isles Jets was equally as impressive. Get in there: C Jackson, D Buchanan, T Pilling 34-10. L Rawson, D Eccles, J Parker 22-16. B Cooper, S Pond, R Chambers 28-7. R Hutton, K Parker, B Gardiner 17-15. G Seaman, C Holloway, D Souter 28-12.
Last, but not least, the Golds completed the days good news. A short trip to the next roundabout along the Crevillente Road, saw them do battle with San Luis Pumas in B div, coming away with a superb 10-4 victory. Cast your eyes over this line-up if you will: S Mahomet, N Murphy, H Barnby 17-13. D McKie, S Gallup, J Ryder 22-15. S Millward, R Millward, D Livesey 16-15. B Jordan, J Horobin, B Lane 20-11.
