We started off the week on Monday with a Waltzer or '1-2-3' which was played in sunny but chilly conditions. The winners with a score of 81 pts. were Joe Rothery, Mick Brentnall, Dave Pulling & Olga Haubner.
Wednesday's competition was a singles stableford and when we started off at 8.00am there was white frost on the ground. The temperature was only 3.0 and for the first hour wooly hats & gloves were the order of the day. Although conditions were good for golf, scoring was hard due to the slickness of the greens and no one beat par with two 36s winning the two categories. Round of the day goes to Mitsuko Hall who came first in Category 2 with her best round since becoming a member. I am sure that we will see you in the winner's enclosure again now you have achieved this breakthrough Mitsuko. The results were;
Cat 1. 1. Lindsay Forbes 36 pts, 2. Joe Rothery 34 pts, Tom Hardie 33 pts.
Cat 2. 1. Mitsuko Hall 36 pts, 2. Mike Chapman 34 pts, Olga Haubner 33 pts.
2s Club. Dave Ottway(again!!), Dave Pulling, Ken Robertson, Hugh Whorriskey & Roy Hitchings.
What a difference a day makes when, after Thursday's rain, we played on Friday in shirt sleeves on the nicest day of 2010 so far. We had a Two Ball Texas Scramble which turned out to be traumatic for me & my playing partner, Tony Brooks. We had only reached the second green when our buggy run out of petrol. " Never mind" says Tony, " I'll borrow our playing partner's buggy and go back to my car for a can of petrol in the boot". Off he goes for Geoff Biggerstaff then to say " Tony hasn't got his car, his wife dropped him off ". Five minutes later a very sheepish Tony reappeared obviously without petrol. Now you will realise why we are seriously considering renaming ourselves "The Alzheimer's Golf Society" because, believe me, Tony isn't the only one!
Anyway we managed to borrow another buggy to continue our round but with little success and we were well out of the frame. The winners with a score of 64.25 were Ken & Liz Robertson and the runners up were Lindsay Forbes & Reg Akehurst with 65.5.
