On Sunday 31st January we held a captain's fun day, 64 bowlers took part in teams of four in a 2-2-4 format which consisted of two 3 wood pairs over six ends & an eight end rinks match, with the winners decided on shot difference. The victors were Ian Rogers, John Jarvis, Steve Pearson & Bob Foulds at plus 23, they received a €15 meat voucher. Runners up were Raol Bennett, Malcolm Broughton, Reg Fooks & Tony Capewell who received a €10 voucher, in third place came Keith Jones, Chris Ayling, Maurice Hill & Lilly Stewart who were proud recipients of a €5 voucher. The day was enjoyed by all and we look forward to the next one so get your thinking cap on Mel.
SABA Enterprise League Quesada Pearls 7 v Emerald Isle Saturns 7
February contains three away games, we have started well. Barbara Eldred, Phil Brigham & Gerald Shatwell v Rob Pinfold, Nigel Baigent & Nick Birch. We fought really hard in this one, after a bad start the deficit was closed to three, but the home side responded again. Lost 22-16.
Ann Holland, Geoff Farrington & Ray Pollock v Jean Parkes, Chip Chapman & John Muldoon. We always struggled but never lost touch against a very tough opponent. However lost 21-13.
Sally Fielder, Les Bedford & Rod Payne v Ruth Birch, Terry Lemon & Pearl Houghton. Off to a good start and we never looked in trouble, lost the last three ends but remained comfortable winners. 24-10.
Robin Kirby, Pat Coffey & Mo Thomas v Joe Dunning, Paul Parkes & John Northend. We did not recover from a bad start; Although we always competed our opponents were too strong. Lost 21-10.
Byron Hart, Ron Ede, Mel O'Dell v Mike Lamberton, John Ester & Joe Brinton. After a cautious start we stormed away winning ten ends in a row, to their credit Quesada came back and took the final four ends. Won 22-12.
Mike Veale, Rita Bennett & Raoul Bennett v Norma Camberton, Veronica Sale & Derek Sale. Game of the day, Always a close one, we dropped five shots behind with three to play. Our new found resilience in 2010 was evident when we took the last three ends to triumph 20-19.
Friendly. Sandra Burrows, Elizabeth Green & Neil Burrows v Tina Brinton, Earl Fielder & Don Washborne. After leading by a large margin for most of the game we were pegged back in the final stages to win by 18-15. Thanks Earl for standing in for Quesada when they lost a couple of players.
Southern League - The Jets travelled to La Siesta to play a very strong Blues squad, the result was not surprisingly a win for the Blues 12-2.
The winning rink was that skipped by Len Bettam, two rinks came close and the remaining three rinks were, in horse racing parlance, also rans.
The Sapphires entertained San Miguel Cougars with both teams battling to avoid relegation, the match ended in an encouraging win for the Sapphires.
Mike Veale, Ron Squires & Les Rod Payne. Four up with four to play, two down with two to play, picked up five to win 18-15.
Chris Ayling, Glenda O'Dell & Alex Morrice, cruising at 17-12 after 15 ends grabbed a draw from the jaws of victory 18-18.
John Jarvis, Roy Rawlings & Mo Thomas, never in the hunt until the last two ends, lost 13-19.
Dave Benson, Frank King & Les Bedford, 12-5 up after 9 ends the dropped 11 shots in the next 4 ends, they the regained their composure to win 19-17.
Ann Holland, Lily Stewart & Mel O'Dell, a fairly even game, two up after 10 then overdrive kicked in, won 25-11.
Dianne Hudson, Barbara Eldred & Russ Hudson, nine shots over the last 3 ends ensured a 17-13 win.
E.I. Diamonds v Quesada Swallows A good game today regardless of the result, Three of the games could have gone our way but it was not to be hence the result 4-10. Good game Swallows.
