POLOP - 6 GUARDAMAR - 1
Alone de Guardamar suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, 6-1 away to Polop, but it might have been so different.
Alone started brightly and could have been one up after only three minutes, when Mario found himself clean through with only the goalkeeper to beat, but he delayed his shot and allowed the keeper to save. From the resultant corner Alone could not force the ball home through the melee of players.
Polop then began to exert pressure of their own and could have scored on 10, and again on 19 minutes, when through on goal, but they were denied by the skill and bravery of keeper Julen, who rushed out of his area to head the ball clear, then saved superbly. Polop didn't have to wait long however for the opener, when a minute later Uboda scored from just inside the left hand corner of the box. Their second goal came five minutes later when Puncho neatly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper Julen.
Polop did not have it all their own way however, and on the half hour mark, Alone's Juanje had a blistering 25 yard shot well saved by home keeper Tenet. Just prior to the interval Vincente shot narrowly over from 35 yards out.
There were only two bookings in the first half, Alone's defender Alberto and manager Carlos Perez! Alberto's earlier yellow card came back to haunt him in the opening minutes of the second half, when he was adjudged, rather harshly, to have fouled Puncho inside the box. The inevitable second yellow followed, Puncho scored the penalty, 3-0 and game over.
Polop's fourth came on the hour when they beat the offside trap and crossed the ball sweetly for Uboda to head in from close range. Alone briefly rallied during the last third of the game when Nino had two good efforts on goal well saved, then Polop managed to keep out a series of at least five attempts on goal, during a frantic goalmouth scramble in the 73rd minute.
Alone did eventually put the ball in the net when Nino scored five minutes from time after a cross from Baiano was powered home. There was however still time for Polop to score a further two goals. The first came from Giorgio, who was clearly offside, and the second a hat trick goal for Puncho who took a painful knock in the process.
Alone will be hoping for a change of fortune in their next home match against high flying Mutxamel on Sunday 14th February, KO 16.30. Please phone Steve on 656579423 for further details
