FC Torrevieja staged a spirited second-half fight back at the Vicente Garcia to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw against promotion hopefuls Olimpic.
Xatvia edged the first half of Sunday's Tercera encounter and, after the home side failed to clear a bouncing ball on the half hour, a ball that the Torry defence should have cleared upfield, Nicolau threw out a foot to steer the ball goalwards and grab the visitors a rather fortunate lead. Up to that point neither side had managed a single shot on goal.
The game continued in a similar vein. Torry were far too narrow up front trying to push everything through the middle of the park while at the back there was little to cause them any real concern with vocals from Heredia ensuring that the back four worked together at the slightest sign of an Olimpic attack.
Quite where further goals were coming from was anybody’s guess so when, on the hour mark, a well placed cross from the right was touched into the path of Aitor by veteran striker Corcoles the larger than average crowd rose in anticipation. As the former ‘Torpedo 66’ man steered the ball into the back of the net to pull the home side level the relief was clear for all to see.
Director of Football Tommy Taylor was clearly disappointed after the game citing the lack of speed up front as the main reason for Torry’s inability to carve out too many opportunities although he was reasonably pleased with his side’s determination against another of the leagues promotion chasing favourites.
