With support from the Guardia Civil the Ministry of development occupied yesterday, the very last piece of land located within the municipal area of Guardamar del Segura which has been holding up completion of the N332 improvements in the area.
Although it has been unoccupied for some time the owner had refused to sign the agreement providing for the transfer to the state so in the early hours of Tuesday morning the company responsible for the upgrading of the Horadada to Guardamar stretch of the road attended with representatives from both the Public Works Department and the Guardia Civil.
The land is located in a field which accommodates the El Fogon Sunday Flea Market in Santa Ana. Immediately that the official contingent moved in the land was fenced off and works were begun to prepare the area to take the new road improvement. Officials said that it was only this one plot that was stopping completion of the road improvement programme.
Delays in obtaining the land have severely disrupted the road’s progress, they said, but now that it is in the hands of the developers work will begin immediately to make up the lost time.
Although the procedure was carried out without any trouble a spokesman said that the attendance of several patrols from the Guardia Civil had been necessary in order to serve a Judicial Warrant on the owner. The operators moved in their machinery without any problem, albeit under the watchful eye of the owner, José Antonio Lillo, who himself was being attended by the Guardia Civil agents.
Snr Lillo said that he felt the attendance of the Guardia was unnecessary. He said that the only dispute he had with the authorities was not the procurement of his land but the price that they were willing to pay.
Municipal sources explained that such situations are extremely common. “Snr Lillo is not the first person to disagree with the amount of compensation that the authorities are willing to pay for his land. But the work is absolutely essential so we can’t afford to delay the project any more. The work must be completed in time for the holiday season which is almost upon us once again” a spokesman said. “It is because of this reason that the judge had no hesitation but to issue a judicial warrant”.
