TEMPERATURES TO IMPROVE NEXT WEEK
Kevin Reardon / 2010-01-16 10:44:26
According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) today (Saturday) the storms that have battered much of the Peninsula in recent days will give way to "significant changes" next week, which will see rainfall in the northern half of the peninsula and a general rise in temperatures.
AEMET spokesman, Angel Rivera, said that next week will see a rise of between four and five degrees.
Persistent rain will be a feature in the north of Spain, especially in Galicia. Today cloudy skies are expected in the northwest, with weak to moderate rainfall, but more intense and frequent in western Galicia. The rains are spread throughout the day, weak to moderate in the Cantabrian area and weak and dispersed in other parts of the northwest quadrant, eastern Cantabria, Upper Ebro, western Pyrenees and Extremadura.
A coating of snow sits at between 1,600 and 2,000 meters in the rest of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with intervals of high clouds cloudy. In the Canaries, light cloud in the north and east of the islands, and partly cloudy elsewhere.
The abundant rainfall recorded throughout the country as a result of the storms has seen the water reserve increase to 30 percent above normal for this time of year."
