New Director of Football Tommy Taylor in his Boston Utd days

Troubled Torrevieja football club have announced a meeting of members for later in the month in an effort to get the club back on its feet with the injection of funds from SaMMinc, a media management firm who have publicly declared their interest in taking over the club.

Following problems with paying the players and alleged dressing room discontent, President Eddie Cagigao resigned from the post on Tuesday and immediately the members meeting was called for members to decide whether they want the new company to come in and save the club. In a statement posted on the club’s and the Torry Army’s website the club announced the forthcoming meeting;

FC Torrevieja hereby inform all concerned the date agreed by the board of directors to hold a Extraordinary General Meeting of Socios. The meeting will take place on Monday 18th January in the library of the “Infanta Cristina” Sports Palace opposite the Vicente Garcia at 20.00.

The purpose of the meeting is to address the immediate future of the club, given the precarious economic situation and the alternative which has come to the table in recent days with the negotiations that have been carried out with an international company.

In order to attend the meeting members have to present a valid Socio card for the season 2009-2010 accompanied by photo id. In the case of the member having paid for their Socio right but not yet having received their Socio card the member should bring proof of identification and their name will be checked against the list of paid members

FC Torrevieja and its board of directors hope for attendance of all socios as this decision will decide the future of your club.

The statement was signed by outgoing President Cagigao who it is believed will still retain an interest in the club.

The day after Cagigao’s resignation Management Company SAMM INC issued their own statement below:

A STATEMENT BY SAMMINC

We are pleased to announce that Tuesday 5th January 2010 hailed a new beginning for FC Torrevieja, as Sports and Media Management (Samminc) where granted full commercial and financial control of FC Torrevieja due to the agreed resignation of Eddie Cagigao.

The function of Sports and Media Management will be to support FC Torrevieja by implementing a strategic recovery plan to re-integrate the club back into the heart of the community, stabilize the unfortunate financial issues the club has been experiencing and push for promotion at the earliest possible opportunity.

We are currently working through the due diligence process with the temporary committee and aim to clear outstanding players’ wages and other debts by the 31st January 2010 to ensure the recovery of this historic football club.

Tommy Taylor has been appointed as the ‘Director of Football’ working alongside Soto to establish a level of football guaranteed to please the loyal and valued FC Torrevieja fan base.  We would be delighted if you could make it to this Sundays game and play a vital part in launching this new and exciting chapter for FC Torrevieja.

We would also like to take the opportunity of thanking the officials of the town for the level of courtesy demonstrated during our recent stay, as well as their help and assistance. We look forward to a long and happy relationship serving the community of Torrevieja.

PS. We would like to confirm that Sunday will not be a club Del dia as previously scheduled - so come along, enjoy the atmosphere and watch a great game of football - we look forward to seeing you there!

Kind Regards
Samminc
