IBERDROLA SPARK CONFUSION

Unfortunately there has been little in the way of information

Iberdrola, those nice people who make it all nice and clear about what we have to do about our electricity supply have enlightened us (a little) on what must be done if you don’t want to pay a whacking 20% on your bill.

The phone hasn’t stopped ringing down here at the office and every time I pick it up, there person on the other end has the same question. ‘What are we supposed to do about Iberdrola? I’ve heard…’ so we got on to Iberdrola and here is what they told me.

If you use more than 10kw of electricity (shown on your bill…if you actually get one that is) then you need to go and register at one of their dedicated outlets and either sign up with another company or, once again, with Iberdrola. If you don’t the cost of your electricity will be upped by 20% every time you receive a bill. Those who are consuming less than 10kw will still pay more for their supply if they fail to register but at the lesser rate of 5%.

The company, which mad 9 billion net profit in the first nine months of last year defends the increases and points out that it is the government who have set the rate not the provider itself.

I have been told by my spanish teacher that electricity prices increased by 20% in January but that the government has said that the increase should not apply to pensioners. Therefore pensioners should go to Iberdrola with proof that they are in receipt of a government pension, a current utility bill and a resident certificate. On receipt of these documents Iberdrola will not bill you for the increase.

I have not been able to find confirmation of this. Nor have I discovered where the company office is for my locality.

I registered at a dedicated Iberdrola outlet for this "saving" early December. Do I need to do so again ? there seems to be so much confusion & rumour about what to do or not do can you clarify this situation as the Iberdrola website does not seem to mention at all.

Are you sure this is not a Spanish "April Fool's" joke??

Where has 10kw usage come from? Is it weekly, monthly or annually? My annual usage is in eccess of 4000 kWh, But my "concepta" is 3.3kW. It seems to be Dave Bull who's "Sparked Confusion". I have spoken to Spanish friends who tell me that to remain with Iberdrola we must "do nothing" and they dismiss the article as scaremongering. One added "do you think the Spanish people would stand for 20% or even 5% increases every month"? I even went to the Foriegner's Office in Torrevieja and was told the same thing. I think a better informed article with much more Clarity is required.

Re your article on Iberdrola. I have telephoned them and I was given to understand the new registration is required for those with a SUPPLY of 10kw. Not usage.
Normal domestic supply is 5.5kw
