Frigiliana Town Hall has asked the provincial government to carry out the demolition of illegal properties as, it says, it does not have the resources to implement orders and has asked the Diputación provincial to take on the responsibility.
The move was approved at a council meeting and the Partido Andalucista Mayor, Javier López insisted that as with many other small corporations, Frigiliana has neither the equipment nor the human resources at its disposal to demolish properties which have been built illegally on land which is classified as unsuitable for development.
The Mayor has made it clear that should the proposal be accepted, all other town planning matters would remain the responsibility of the Town Hall. And planning councillor, Francisco Moyana, believes others Mayors of Málaga province may be interested in making a similar move.
The Town Hall currently has some 300 administrative investigations underway into local planning infractions, and it is reported that some relate to properties in the protected area of the village centre.
The prosecution service has meanwhile opened preliminary investigations into 30 or so properties which have been built in outlying areas.
