In Bill's prize trips game on Saturday there was just the one outright winning trip. With no countback or any mathematical equations needed and this time it was an all male trio consisting of Keith Simpson. Dave Taylor, skipped by John Albutt, this team won both sets of 9 ends and finished with a + 25 shots pretty convincing by any standard so it was these three that walked off with the Sunday dinner.

As I wrote last week Calpe came down on Sunday to play us in the second leg of the Palimar Friendship Trophy and they ran in to a very in form La Marina when we won 3 out of the 4 rinks a couple of them by big margins, our three winners were Hilary Cronk, Dave Gugerly. Ceridwen Davies, skip Maureen Kidd 20 - 12 (incidentally this rink also had a hot shot), then came Brenda Brain. Leighton Davies. Derek Shirley, skip Dave Hadaway 24 - 7, but the best win of the day was by Jeanette Gugerly. Dave Willas. Arthur Cronk, skipped by Myself 30 - 10, so when it was all added up we won the Trophy with a + 46 shot, but it was a great days bowling (well it was for us) but joking apart Calpe are a great crowd and the friendship between our two clubs really shone through and we look forward to keeping this annual event going for many years to come.

In the S.A.B.A. League on Monday we had two wins at home both by 10 - 4 margins, in the morning it was the Pathfinders who took to the green to beat Country Bowls Supernovas four wins to two, the winners being, Ron Maiden. Phil Richmond. skip Dave Hadaway 27 - 8. Phyllis Thomson. John Morgan, skip John Albutt 20 - 10, Jim Thomson. Steve Hindle, skip Len Daniels 27 - 12, and Gina Donnelly. Wendy Oxley., skipped by Peter Bailey 19 - 17, the overall shots margin was also good being 113 - 81 in favour of the Pathfinders, in the afternoon it was the Astronauts turn winning against Horadada Condors by the same margin as the Pathfinders, their winning trips were Chris Bould. Chris Lomas, skip Bill Bould 16 - 12, Jeanette Gugerly, Dave Gugerly, skip Bill Massey 17 - 15. Margaret Jamieson. Dave Willas, skip Bill Jamieson 20 - 14, and Peggy Lomas. Jack Chorlton skipped by John Norman 19 - 10 the overall shots total quite close at 100 to 90, but enough of a gap to give the Astronauts the 10 points.

It was the Explorers away to San Miguel Pulsars that failed to do the business as they only managed just the one win that was by Angie Butler. Tom Spencer, skipped by Fred Roberts 22 - 9, and with the overall shots going heavily against them at 83 - 111, their only reward was just 2 points; let’s just say they have had better days

The Sharks kicked off the day well on Friday morning with a victory over Greenlands Green, who were their visitors at La Marina in the A division of the southern league with 4 winning rinks and a draw the winners were Hilary Cronk. Shirley Hadaway, skip Graham Norris 23 - 13, then a big win by Peter Parsons. Dave Lewis, skip Alan Castle 31 - 8, an even bigger one by Margaret McLaughlin, Alex Whyte, skip Fred Roberts 38 - 7, and Janet Parsons. Ceridwen Davies, skipped by Fred Norris 23 - 10, ( see I got your name right this week Ceridwen twice, which goes to show I can speak welsh as well as Spanish, multi linguist look you) the very honorable draw was earned by Ron Garland. Roy Hart, skipped by Roy Mercer 18 - 18, with the overall shots total being 146 - 74 which when you add all that together gave the Sharks an 11 points to 3 win.

The Seagulls kept the momentum going in the afternoon at home to El Rancho when they won 4 rinks by way of Rose Foster. Dave Taylor, skip Denis Foster 27 - 12, Jim Thomson. Peter Bailey. skip Len Daniels 29 - 10, a runaway win by Gina Donnelly, Arthur Cronk, skip Dave Hadaway 33 - 13, and a nail biting finish by Jill, John, and John, Messrs Albutt. Morgan & Albutt, going into the last end one down at 13 – 14 and still one down with one wood to bowl by John who managed to come in and make it two by a very close measure giving the Seagulls that extra win and the overall shots taking their total to a 10 points to 4 win, that just left the Dolphins to round off a perfect day, their task was win away at Greenlands Orange, this they almost did by winning 3 rinks, with Kathy Manning. Phil Pape, skip Brian Zelin 28 - 12, Brian Murray. Jim freeman, skip Jim Manning 19 - 16, and Doug McDaniel. Cliff Rawlinson, skipped by Bill Jones 17 - 15, but it was the overall shots total that let them down in the end being 87 - 106 against so 6 points was their tally for the afternoon.
