The victims were released unharmed. Guardia Civil units are now on the trail of the kidnappers.
Two men were abducted in La Cala del Moral, a suburb of Malaga, last Monday. When their captors realized that they were not the intended targets, they were released, bound hand and foot. Details of the kidnapping have just been released by the Guardia Civil (Saturday 28 November) as the search for the perpetrators goes on.
The two victims, both Spanish, were visiting the home of a family member when the criminals broke in, brandishing hand guns mounted with silencers. The only aspect of the kidnappers’ identity that is known for certain at this stage is that they were foreigners.
Bound, gagged and beaten by their kidnappers, the two men were told that the ransom was a million euros – or they would be killed. The men replied that they didn’t have access to that kind of money. After some hours, according to the theory which investigators are working on, the two criminals realized that these men were not the “targets” they’d originally had in mind. They left the men bound and gagged and went outside, where it appears a getaway driver awaited them.
In a scene worthy of a Hollywood film, the two victims managed to cut the cords which were binding them by manipulating a kitchen knife. They called the Guardia Civil, who attended the scene promptly. The investigation continues.
