In the early part of 2008 The Torrevieja Barbershop Harmonisers decided to have their first Quartet competition. Ray, Richard, Rob, and Slim , joined together to form their quartet and ‘Q4’ was born (all four live in Quesada hence the name Q4). Under the expert guidance and training of Barry Crowley, who has many years of singing experience, they decided to go right back to the basics in the art of close harmony singing, and to combine it with entertainment and comedy.
Q4 started rehearsing in May and continued through the following summer months. After many hours of hard work, on competition day the 11th November saw them the first winners of ‘The Dudley Jones Quartet Trophy’. Later that month they were invited to be part of TBH’s own production ‘Cabaret Internationale’ at The Teatro Capitol in Rojales, in their own right. Singing to over four hundred people was very daunting for the first time, but they came through with flying colours. From that moment on they were ‘on the road’
In March of 2009 Q4 were back at Rojales, this time in the ‘Side by Side’ variety show. The following evening at the Teatro Municipal in Torrevieja their performance was proved to be very popular with the audience, and was another clear success. Many smaller venues were to follow, their most recent, by request of the Ayuntamiento, in Campo Verde to sing at their fiesta celebrations in the Plaza Florida. on August 22nd, they sang Fat Bottom Girls, Mary Lou, Under the Boardwalk, Bye Bye Love, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, The Lion Sleeps Tonight and You Raise me up to name just a few, Q4 are busy with Christmas bookings at the moment and many more performances are planned for the coming months.
Q4`s commitment to make every performance polished and professional is why they have become so popular in such a short space of time.
