On Sunday, November 22nd at the Cine Moderno in San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia, The Raquel Peña Spanish Dance Company once again produced a show full of new exciting dances, breathtaking costumes and a host of very talented dancers, many of them new.
This Company literally seems to go from strength to strength; everyone agrees that each performance is better than the last. The full house, the warm audience, the colorful varied costumes and all the new choreographies made for a most enjoyable evening from start to finish.
The three hour long show, compered by Jane Cronin and Luisa Sirvent, started off with all the female dancers walking through the audience with only candle light from their lanterns, very dramatic and different, and a perfect start to a programme that included the most profound rhythms of the flamenco, such as soleares, seguiriyas, alegrias, farrucas, and bulerias to the lighter vein, sevillanas, tangos, guajiras and rumbas, not forgetting the very popular signature pieces that the Company always includes, Ravel's Bolero, La Boda de Luis Alsonso and Raquel Peña's castanet solo. Completely new for this Company were a fast moving Jota from Aragon and a story ballet depicting a typical miner's family from the early 1900s.
The company finished with a fun filled fiesta in beautiful white and red costumes. Truly a night to remember. The €2400 donation will be divided equally between the two chosen charities and will be presented in a press conference to be announced. Help Murcia Mar Menor and the people of Saharaui will each receive a cheque for €1200. The ADAPT Association, The Cultural Department of San Pedro Town Hall and The Human Rights Association of Murcia have all helped to make this programme possible.
